Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021

St. Patrick’s Home of Ottawa, like all Ontario Long Term Care Homes, is legislated primary by the Fixing Long Term Care (LTC) Act, 2021 and associated Regulations.

The Fixing LTC Act outlines the manner in which a Home must operate.  It also identifies that there are obligations and policies that must be in place for a resident care and services.

Annually all LTC Homes in the province are inspected by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC).  The Inspection Reports for all Homes are posted on the website: http://publicreporting.ltchomes.net

If there are areas identified from the report as not being in compliance with the Act or Regulations, the Home is required to undertake a variety of actions to remedy the identified issue depending on the assessed degree of risk to residents. If you have a question or concern, please speak to a registered staff member or a manager, so we can assist you. In the event that we cannot, all residents and visitors have the right to contact the Ministry of Long Term Care. There is a toll free hot line to the MOHLTC, 1-866-434-0144.  The number is also found in the Information binder in the Home if individuals have concerns. In the event there is a complaint, compliance inspectors will conduct an inspection related to the specific concern.

Accreditation

St. Patrick’s Home has voluntarily participated in an accreditation process since 1986 and was the first long term care home to be accredited in Ottawa. Accreditation identifies that the Home has met national standards of care and service established by the accrediting organization.  St. Pat’s was accredited by Accreditation Canada from 1986 to 2010.  Since 2010 we have been accredited by the program provided by the international accreditation body known as C.A.R.F – the Council of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities- Aging Services.  Our most recent three year accreditation is in place until 2026.
